England’s badminton prospects compete for the U19 English National Championship titles in Milton Keynes on 28th Nov 2022. Lisa Curtin dominated the women’s competition and won gold medals in Singles and Doubles. Lisa lost the opening game 21-19 with second-seeded Leona Lee and came back 21-10 21-13 to finish with a Gold medal in 22 minutes.
“I’m feeling really happy. This is our last-ever junior tournament so it’s really nice to finish on a double gold. There was a lot of pressure on me in the singles especially, I was quite nervous in the final and the semi-final.”, said Lisa. Lisa Curtin and Estelle Van Leeuwen retained the women’s doubles gold by beating third seeds Lee and Katherine Arksey 21-14 21-8.
Nadeem Dalvi defeated Michael Pang 21-17 21-10 to claim the men’s singles gold. He managed the tough match in the semi-final stage when he lost the second game to fifth seed Blake Hoang, and rebound in the third game as 21-12 14-21 21-16 and reached the final.
“I had some tough matches, particularly the semi-final. I’m not very comfortable playing semi-final but I was so glad to get through that. In the final, I brought my level up. I felt really good on the court. I’m over the moon. I’m so happy to join a few great names as the U19 men’s singles champion.", said Nadeem.
