Ajay Dhankhar, is the chief coach of Triddee Sports Academy, Hithadhoo, Addu city, Maldives, and has earned a Sports Authority of India badminton coaching certificate in 2022 from Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports Patiala which is India's No.1 sports public university of Government of India.
Ajay plays an essential role in training the sub-junior badminton players from the South Zone of the Maldives, assisting them in becoming competitive at the national level. Ajay Dhankhar, born on October 17, 2001, in Sonipat, Haryana, India, is a testament to perseverance and passion in the world of badminton. His journey began on November 21, 2012, at the age of 11, when he joined Malik Badminton Academy under the guidance of Coach Harender Malik. Over the next decade, Ajay consistently represented his district in state tournaments, showcasing exceptional dedication. In 2015, he celebrated his first major achievement by winning the Haryana State Badminton Championship in boys' doubles.
Seeking growth and new challenges, Ajay transitioned to Ajay Rathee Badminton Academy in 2018. Simultaneously, he excelled academically, completing his 12th grade in 2019 from Swami Vivekanand Public School in the arts stream with an impressive 80.8% score. That same year, he began part-time coaching to support himself and share his knowledge with budding players.
Ajay’s journey wasn’t without challenges. After losing his father to complications from black fungus and COVID-19 on November 2, 2021, Ajay found strength in his family, particularly his elder brother, who stepped up to support them. This pivotal moment inspired Ajay to embrace coaching as a career fully. At Ajay Rathee Badminton Academy, he not only honed players' skills but also ventured into creating badminton training content for Instagram, amassing an impressive following of 18.4k by 2023.
In June 2023, Ajay’s expertise earned him an offer to become the head coach in the Maldives. Over the past 1.5 years, he has elevated the performance of players under his guidance. His efforts have led to remarkable achievements, including producing Maldives’ rank 1 in boys' singles under 15, rank 1 in boys' singles under 17, and rank 2 in boys' doubles under 17.
